Data Sampling and Sample Size: National longitudinal study. Caregivers and their children from 80 WIC sites across 27 states remained eligible to participate in the study regardless of continued participation in WIC. Sample included 3,775 caregivers though findings may report smaller sample sizes for data simplification.

Dataset Description: This study means to capture data on caregivers and their children over the first 6 years of the child’s life regardless of their continued participation in WIC. The study focuses on the dietary intake patterns and weight status of children during the fourth year of life. It also examines families’ WIC experiences and their perceptions of the program’s impact.

WIC Measures in Dataset: This study examines child-feeding practices among WIC participants, associations between WIC services and those practices, and the health and nutrition outcomes of children who received WIC around birth.

Years available and frequency of data collection: This study will go up to a child’s sixth year of life, though the most recent data is available in the Fifth Year Report. Reports are released as data becomes available. The first report, Intent to Breastfeed, was released in 2015 and the Fifth Year Report was released in 2022.
