The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and Wichita State University will share results from a collaborative project focused on non-Hispanic Black mothers’ birth experiences (services, treatment, and health priorities), including strategies to improve maternal care of Black mothers. KDHE will also discuss the Maternal Anti-Violence Innovation and Sharing (MAVIS) Project, a cross-sector initiative focused on gathering additional data related to social determinants of health in cases of homicides, suicides and poisoning/overdose during pregnancy or the 12 months postpartum.
