Congressional Letter on WIC Food Package: January 2022
By National WIC Association
In January 2022, Congresswomen Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) wrote to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack encouraging swift action to revise the WIC food packages in a manner consistent with the 2017 review of the National Academies of Sciences. The letter spotlights a key pandemic-era flexibility to permit expanded package size options for yogurt and urges USDA to finalize science-based reforms before the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration. The letter is joined by a bipartisan group of 24 members of Congress.
