Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System

Data Sampling and Sample Size: Nationally Representative, repeated cross-sectional. Each sample contains 1,000 to 3,000 women per participating site in the study. However, detailed data information requires a request for data access.

Dataset Description: Population-based surveillance system designed to identify groups of women and infants at high risk for health problems, monitor changes in health status, and measure progress towards goals in improving the health of mothers and infants.

WIC Measures in Dataset: Use of WIC breastfeeding or supplemental income services during and/or after pregnancy. WIC measures are located in the Phase 8 English Standard and Topic Reference Question packets in the Questionnaire Supplements section.

Years available and frequency of data collection: PRAMS conducts surveys in phases lasting at three to five years each, beginning in 1988. However, only Phase 5 to the current Phase 8 questionnaires are available online. 7 phases of data have been collected, though only Phase 5 (collected between 2004 and 2008 ) and later phases are available online. The most recent phase completed (Phase 7) was collected between 2012 and 2015. Phase 8 is currently in data collection, and questionnaires are available online.
