Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Grocer Testimonial 2017

“Thank you for the opportunity to provide testimony on how being associated with the WIC program has positively impacted our company over the last 10 years. Ten years ago, our company was already starting to introduce healthier items. The WIC program forced us to not only bring in more healthy food options, but to also bring in these items at the best possible price. For example, we use to bring in yogurt by air freight because of the short shelf life when sourcing from third party wholesalers. A few years ago, we finally were able to purchase Yoplait Yogurt direct from the General Mills factory. This gave us the longest possible shelf life, which allowed us to ship the yogurt by ocean freight. This move made yogurt affordable to the majority of consumers on Saipan. In late 2016, our stores implemented organic healthy food aisles and healthy bulk food dispensers. The WIC program has also forced our company to step up its game when it comes to POS modernization and customer service. We value our WIC business, so we continuously strive to service our WIC customers in the best way possible. This is accomplished through staff training and upgrading our POS systems to better adapt to WIC requirements.” — WIC Grocer, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
