New York Participant Testimonial 2018

“This past Saturday my youngest son and I attended the free bicycle helmet event at the hospital. There was a spokeswoman representing the WIC Program and I thanked her and the good people who worked at the office where my family received assistance. It was back in the summer of 1998 when my husband and our one-year old son stepped foot into the office. As I had not previously asked for government assistance, I went in with some trepidation. To my relief, we were promptly taken care of by a lady who treated us with compassion and respect. Thanks to your program, we were given food that we could not have afforded otherwise: name-brand cereal, juice and peanut butter to name a few. Fast forward 19 years later, my oldest son who benefited from WIC has just completed his second year at RIT in Mechanical Engineering. As for myself, I have been working as an ESOL teacher for the school district for 17 years. Homelessness and hunger can be a reality for my students. Whenever I learn of parents struggling to feed their family, I refer them to WIC. In closing, my family is grateful for the help you have given us and we will definitely pay it forward by serving our community.” — WIC Participant, New York
