The Healthfulness of Food and Beverage Puchases after the Federal Food Package Revisions: The Case of Two New England States

Using data provided by a regional grocery store on puchasing practices of WIC participating and comparison households, they found that the healthfulness of WIC participant purchases increased following the food package revisions. Healthfulness was determined by saturated fat, sugar, and sodium content. They found that beverage purchases had the biggest improvement in terms of healthfulness, likely due to the milk fat restrictions included in the revision.
