Colorado PEAK Multi-program Screener and Application and Online WIC Signup
By Colorado WIC Program
The Colorado WIC (COWIC) Program receives electronic referrals from the Colorado PEAK application and COWIC’s online referral form, www.ColoradoWICsignup.com. Colorado PEAK is an online service Coloradans can use to screen, and in some cases apply, for medical, food, cash, and child care assistance programs – including WIC. Electronic referrals are routed by zip code to local WIC agency “inboxes” within the WIC Referral System (WRS) – a secure, online database managed by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment Health Informatics Systems Unit. Referrals from COWIC’s online referral form route directly into the WRS, while referrals from PEAK need to be uploaded.
Each local agency (LA) has an “inbox” within the WRS which designated LA staff access to manage their referrals. LAs are responsible for contacting referrals within 10 days from the date of submission. Staff prescreen for income and categorical eligibility before scheduling and two contact attempts are required.
On average, COWIC receives 2,700 electronic referrals each month (~1,500 from PEAK and 1,200 from the online referral form). Referral outcomes on average: 40% enroll, 10% have pending appointments, 40% staff were not to get a hold of (no answer, wrong contact info, etc.), and the remaining 10% were already enrolled, not eligible, or no longer interested.
