Farm to Clinic Pop-Up Market One-Pager

By Rebecca Scothorn and Maggie Funkhouser

This resource is a one-pager for an event called “Farm to Clinic” coordinated by the Carrboro Farmers’ Market (CFM) and Piedmont Health Services (PHS) in Carrboro, North Carolina. Farm to Clinic was a pop-up mini farmers market in the parking lot of PHS where WIC clients could spend their WIC FMNP checks and receive extra benefits (“Double Bucks”) from the CFM.

The Carrboro Farmers’ Market (CFM) is able to offer Double Bucks to SNAP/EBT, WIC FMNP, and Seniors FMNP customers thanks to generous funding from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and UNC Health. Through the Double Bucks program, they offer a dollar-for-dollar match (up to $50) for these benefits at the CFM. They are also able to offer other incentives, such as Cash Match (a dollar-for-dollar match for cash if someone shows their SNAP/EBT card or e-WIC card) and Bring-a-Friend benefits (an extra $5 for friends who also use one of these programs).
