How To: Raise Healthy, Independent Eaters
By Lindsey Miller, Lauren Dawson, Megan Lott
It’s not just what we feed our kids that matters, but also how we handle feeding or eating that’s really important in establishing lifelong healthy habits for kids. Supporting children’s independence in learning to accept healthful foods makes a difference. This tip sheet is designed for parents and caregivers and provides practical strategies on how to raise healthy, independent eaters. The tip sheet offers ideas on how to give kids autonomy, including how to get kids involved and how to help kids listen to their hunger and fullness cues. More information on Healthy Eating Research’s Recommendations for Creating Healthy Eating Habits for Kids 2-8 can be found in the tip sheet.
