Participation in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program as Reported by Documented and Undocumented Farm Worker Adults in the Household

Research on undocumented immigrants’ participation in the WIC program is fairly limited because there is great difficulty in obtaining data on these individuals. The study analyzed data obtained from the National Agricultural Workers Survey (NAWS) to obtain information about the legal status of farm workers (status in regards to the adult, and not the child). By using this data, they sought information about participation trends among undocumented persons in the WIC program. WIC does not discriminate by citizenship status, so the study wanted to look at whether these individuals were more or less reluctant to participate given this factor.
