Congressional Letter on WIC Food Package: March 2022
By National WIC Association
In March 2022, Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Reps. Gwen Moore (D-WI) and Don Young (R-AK), along with 112 of their colleagues in Congress, wrote to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack encouraging swift action to revise the WIC food packages in a manner consistent with the 2017 review of the National Academies of Sciences. The letter specifically urges USDA to issue foods in amounts above cost-neutral NASEM recommendations, to ensure increased access to fruits, vegetables, and seafood for WIC families.
