WIC participation was negatively associated with breastfeeding initiation among whites but not blacks. WIC participation was not associated with breastfeeding duration for women of either race.
Study findings showed that 68% of women in the clinic breastfed greater than 6 months. The earlier the age of first visit to the clinic, the more likely the woman was to report that the Lactation Foundation influenced her confidence to breastfeed.
Technology based information may work in this population, especially if targeting the entire household and younger family members. However, they should limit the amount of cellular data used to participate which is costly in Alaska.
